CALGARY — Pierre Alvarez is stepping down after nine years as president of the Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers.
The announcement follows a meeting of the association's board of governors in Calgary. Alvarez will stay on as president until his appointed successor has had a chance to work into the job - a process that's expected to take the next few months.
Board chairman Gerard Protti says in a release that Alvarez has made an "immeasurable contribution" to the oil and gas industry in Canada and to the country's economic performance.
The Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers represents 140 companies that explore for, develop and produce more than 95 per cent of Canada's natural gas, crude oil, oilsands and elemental sulphur.
